FEDERAL GOVERNMENT INAUGURATES THE FIRST NIGERIA STROKE REFERENCE GROUP (NSRG)

The NSRG was inaugurated on 15th September 2015 by Dr Wapada Balami acting for Mr Linus Awute, Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Health on behalf of His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari. 

The NSRG is made up of experts in Nigeria and in the Diaspora as well as key stakeholders in the prevention and management of stroke and its effects. 

The NSRG will be chaired by Professor Sunday Bwala, Chief Consultant Neurologist National Hospital and University of Abuja Teaching Hospital supported by Mrs Rita Melifonwu, CEO of Stroke Action Nigeria, Secretary to the NSRG and by Mrs Florence Mbogu, Stroke Ambassador and Assistant Secretary to NSRG.

The memorandum of understanding between the FMOH and Stroke Action; and the partnership between MANSAG and SAN were the key events leading to the formation of the NSRG. Thank you to the FMOH for ensuring the success of the inaugural meeting and special commendation to SAN and MANSAG for driving this initiative.

Special appreciation for the work of the Medical Association of Nigerians Across Great Britain (MANSAG) in Nigeria, particularly its role in raising funds (through its Run/Walk for Stroke and a Charity Ball in May 2015) for this event and help in organizing it. 

The NSRG is supported by Professor Osinbajo, Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who sent his aide to the meeting.
